compose – focus – create

the first official release of mac os x came out exactly 10 years ago. that’s a long time in technology. i didn’t use a mac back then. not many people did. i bought my first apple computer in 2004: a white 12″ ibook 1ghz g4 that ran os x 10.3 panther. it was the start of  an addiction. i love(d) that thing. i thought it died on me a few weeks ago, but it seems to be working again. the design is still amazing. even now it looks small and futuristic. 2003 or 2004 was the year the ipod got really popular. then the iphone was released and now the ipad is taking over. eventually people got interested into macs and the hardware became more affordable. apple gained a lot of marketshare.

when i got my first mac to write my master’s thesis, i was probably the only one in my class that ran os x. when i walked around the university today almost 50% of the students had an apple laptop. the outliers became the norm. amazing. happy birthday os x. we’ll see what the future holds for the next 10 years.
